ABOUT US

Our History

The Pediatric Learning Center, Inc. (PLC) is a nonprofit organization serving children and their families throughout the Mid-South.  The Pediatric Learning Center, Inc. was established in October 2022 with a desire to provide therapy, education and support services utilizing a family-centered team approach.  In addition, the Pediatric Learning Center, Inc. partners with local agencies, and local university undergraduate and graduate programs for training and clinical learning opportunities.

Although PLC is a new organization, our founder and Board members have over 20 + years of experience providing early intervention and pediatric therapy services to families in the Mid-South.

In July 2024, PLC was awarded a grant to become an Early Intervention Resource Agency (EIRA) for the Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS). This allowed us to add early interventionists / developmental therapists to our team!

Why is PLC a nonprofit organization?

The Pediatric Learning Center, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization for both federal and state tax purposes.

As a non-profit organization we can better balance the needs of families in the community when making programming and business decisions.  This also allows us to collaborate and network with other nonprofit organizations in the community, such as local universities for training and research purposes.  As a nonprofit organization, we are also able to participate in state programs. Fundraising efforts and donor sponsorships help supplement our programs in order to provide valuable services to our community.

The Pediatric Learning Center, Inc. provides therapy and education services for children and families with all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to all families. The Pediatric Learning Center, Inc. shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, religion, or sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity) in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs, and other administered services and programs.

Why the bumble bee?

Our mascot is the bumble bee.  Why the bee?

1. Bees work together as a team to help their community.  Bees remind us that we need others in our life. When we work together, we can achieve great things.

2. Bees are found on every continent (except Antarctica) and have different meanings in different cultures and folklore. They are well known to represent focus, dedication, hard work, teamwork, and generosity.

3. The bumble bee teaches us about the importance of communication. Bees communicate with their hive mates through song. When we learn to communicate effectively, we can resolve issues as they arrive, work together to create solutions, and achieve our goals.

4. The bumble bee is a symbol of happiness, productivity and good luck.

5. Bees have the incredible ability to stay focused and peristent - which allows them to be productive and enjoy the sweetest things in life.
